now. others are blank blanketed in -- are blanketed in fog. lorraine blanco is live at the toll plaza with a look at what drive remembers dealing with there. it looks like a blanket of fog behind you. >> reporter: yeah, it is. the first day back from the holiday for many of us. we're facing a lot of fog and a lot of traffic here. it's still dense enough that it's still hard to make out the toll plaza. it's right behind us. even the warning signs about the fog are hard to read. there is a break in the fog around san pablo. but be prepared for the fog on the side streets as well this morning at jack london square in oakland. could you not read the streets

there -- you could not read the signs. give yourself some extra time. slow down and use those low beams. reporting live in oakland, lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. thank you, lorraine and here is a live look picture from our roof cam looking towards san francisco. you can't see very far. it's very foggy in some parts of the bay area. now, we just spoke to the duty manager at sfo. he says the fog is expected to cause delays of more than an hour most of the day. those delays are expected to begin around 8:00 a.m. and continue until at least 3:00 in the afternoon. again, this is at sfo. the fog is expected to cause delays at the airports in oakland and san jose. a lot of people heading back home after the thanksgiving holiday. you should call ahead, though, if you are heading to the airport this morning. 7:03. well a carbon monoxide scare in san francisco sense more than a dozen people to the hospital

and -- sent more than a dozen people to the hospital and there's still a search of where it came from. ktvu's alex savidge is in san francisco. you've been on the story since 4:30. investigators are having a hard time finding answers. >> reporter: it's certainly been a challenge to figure out what made this family sick last night. a pg&e spokeswoman told me this morning that they had one of their representatives here at their house until late in the evening last night, trying to fick out a cause for the leak -- figure out a cause for the leak. he tested the unit upstairs and downstairs. and he didn't get any carbon monoxide readings in either case. firefighters came out here about 7:00 last night on cortland street in the bernal heights neighborhood in san francisco. a total of 14 people had to be transported to the hospital after being exposed to the colorless, odorless gas. firefighters say those patients did have carbon monoxide in their blood stream. a pg&e representative here on scene responded and was not able to figure out where the gas was coming from.

one neighbor told us this carbon monoxide scare actually forced her to evacuate. >> we got a knock on the door from our neighbors and they told us that there's like carbon monoxide leak upstairs. they told us to come out of the house. when we got out, there was a fire truck and ambulances up and down the street. they took the whole families to the hospital. >> reporter: i just checked in a couple of hours ago with the san francisco fire department dispatch center. i asked how the family members are doing. i wasn't able to get an update on their current conditions at the hospital. there's no word whether the family was alerted by a carbon monoxide detecter but this is certainly a good reminder for all of the rest of us. there is a california law that went into effect last year requiring all single-family homes to have a carbon monoxide detector and then starting in january of next year, all condos and apartments must also install those carbon monoxide detecters. live in san francisco, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news.

>> thank you, alex. the father of a vallejo teenager is in jail after police say he shot and killed another boy who was fighting with his son. it happened early yesterday morning on robles way near glen cove. 44-year-old randee damar williams senior is accused of shooting and killing a 17-year- old richmond boy after getting a call from his son for help. neighbors say they could hear yelling, when all of a sudden shots rang out. >> all you heard was pow, pow, pow, pow. and i just ducked. i laid down. >> scary that just right across the street, somebody got shot. >> williams was arrested at his home shortly after the shooting. this was the 21st homicide of the year in vallejo. 7:06. we now know more about a bay area connection to a deadly crash on highway 50 that killed four people. it happened saturday night near placerville when the driver of a prius veered across four lanes of traffic right into the

path of a minivan. three members of an oakland family were in that prius. they were killed. their 10-year-old daughter is in the hospital with severe injuries. a 4-year-old girl riding in the minivan also died. some people who live in the area believe the driver of the prius may have swerved to avoid running into a deer. >> i think it's a high chance of being connected. >> now, four other people in that minivan were not seriously hurt. it is 7:06. a number of deadly crashes was up this thanksgiving weekend compared to last year. but dui arrests were down slightly. the chp says 31 people were killed statewide including six in the bay area between wednesday evening and yesterday morning. that's ten more deaths statewide than last year. in many of those cases, people were not wearing seat belts. >> as we can see, not everybody was seat belted. that's an unfortunate part

because that should be the norm for anyone when he they are being seated in a vehicle to automatically -- when they are being seated in the vehicle, to automatically buckle up. time now, 7:07. well, this week, the u.s. supreme court could decide whether the deal with the -- whether to deal with the issue of same-sex marriage. the court is due to hold a closed-door conference on friday. coming up for you at 7:15, the one decision the court could make that would make same-sex marriage legal here in california before christmas time. all right. want to check in with tara filling in for sal. tara, it was crystal clear for most of my drive in from danville through walnut creek. but i know there's a lot of other heavy fog. >> that's right. and those advisories are in effect for the bridges. some other parts will be lifted at 9:00 this morning. the dumbarton bridge is the only bridge not under advisory

but it is still foggy on the west side of the span. so be careful. this is 101 in san jose. tail lights are headed to the airport. if we head up to emeryville at the macarthur maze, you can see the fog we've been talking about. we can't see anything and the bay bridge toll plaza is much the same way. that's where lorraine blanco has been out all moneying warning about the fog advisory. and la fayette, westbound traffic on the left-hand side as you make your way to the caldecott tunnel and the hills, it looks like fall but not too many delays. not too bad. here's steve. >> thank you, tara. clear for a few. other areas, boy, i tell you it is foggy. twitter nation alive and well with a lot of fog reports from the north bay, mainly north bay peninsula around the city and then also towards parts of the coast. we do have coast and also inland bay fog.

usually it is one or the other and not both. but a few locations are clear. so a dense fog advisory takes us until 9:00. sunny, this will be our last sunny day of the week. no doubt about it. not only fog but increasing clouds. and then wednesday through sunday, a pretty wet pattern. but it's too early to go in for totals yet. there are reports from the russian river north for maybe a foot of rain between wednesday and sunday. we'll see. one forecast model is not as bullish as the other. but it's going to rain. fog and clouds here for the morning for some. it will be very foggy. that fog is tough to burn off, once it sets up. but mostly sunny in the afternoon. kind of hazy and mild. the dry patterned ends wednesday morning and then it will be good by fog and hello to rain. heavier amounts will be north. it looks like the first take, wednesday morning and then thursday evening. after that, friday, saturday, and sunday look to be a

complete broad brush. today, we have a mostly clear sky after that fog. but a little bit of even a tropical tap coming into the system. so that will add more rain on wednesday. 30s, 40s and 50s on the lows. clear skies. it's cold. otherwise that fog. an eighth of a mile, even zero for some. you can see the cloud cover inching toward us. but i think it will wait until tuesday. cloud, rain -- no rain. just fog. tuesday morning, increasing clouds. here comes the clouds by tuesday morning and then wednesday morning, it looks like a wet commute. it will be through by the afternoon. should be pretty good but then the next system looks like it will be here on thursday night. points north from about sonoma county north, could have a lot of rain by the end of this week. fog, sun, mild. thick morning fog, hazy skies, highs 50, and 60s. if the fog does not burn off, it's a tough forecast.

emergency exits. at least 12 people jumped from the building trying to get away from the flames. egypt's justice minister said that a resolution was immiment to the political crisis over president morsi's decision to grant himself sweeping pours, a move that's touched days of street violence. president morsi says the move is temporary and he plans to meet with the country's supreme judicial council. supporters and opponents of the president are planning big protests tomorrow. 7:15. united states supreme court gets involved in the historic gay marriage debate this week. ktvu's alison burns in our washington, d.c. newsroom with the cases now facing the court. alison? >> reporter: dave, the justices will meet behind closed doors to decide whether to take up any of the cases related to same-sex marriage this week.

now, tops among those cases, of course, california's proposition 8, the 2008 voter- approved ban on same-sex marriage. if the court decides not to take up a challenge to proposition 8, that means gay and lesbian couples would legally be able to legally marry in california right away. the justices are also considering whether to take up challenges to the federal law that defines marriages between a man and a woman. legal analysts say the justices might want to let lower court rulings stand and avoid the issue altogether. same-sex marriage supporters are releasing an ad this week to try to influence the court. >> we've delivered a mandate for full equality. the wind is at our back but our journey has just begun. >> reporter: we should know by next week what the court decide. reporting live from washington, d.c., alison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 7:17. investigators in massachusetts say the cause of friday's huge

gas explosion in springfield was human error but it was not an error of judgment. the state fire marshal says the utility worker accidentally punctured a high-pressure gas line lyle looking for a leak and that explosion was ignited by a spark. authorities say the markings were wrong. >> his examination appears to have been an appropriate distance from where all of the markings were on the sidewalk, indicating where the gas line from the main went into the building. however, the markings were incorrect. >> 21 people were injured and 42 buildings were damaged or destroyed by the explosion on friday. the massachusetts department of public utilities is now investigating the incident. 7:18. climate change tops the agenda at a meeting of almost 200 nations in the oil rich country

a pilot was forced to make an emergency landing at cal state north ridge. he was originally headed to van nuys airport. but he was forced to make the emergency landing after losing power over the san fernando valley. the pilot and passenger only have minor injuries. san jose leaders are getting ready make a big and controversial move at the city's airport. the city may give airport staffers and biologists the okay to shoot at birds to scare them away from planes and the airfield. for the most part, though, using blanks. but real bullets can be used if necessary. current i city law only allows the police and the military to fire guns at the airport. there have been 180 bird strikes at the airport since 2009. the most recent was in june when seagulls hit a southwest airlines jet. 7:24. there is a new study that says more kids are being hurt in those inflatable bounce houses. according to the journal of

pediatrics, 30 kids a day are treated in emergency rooms from broken bones to concussions. most happen when the kids fall inside or out of those inflatable playhouses or they collide with even other. now -- with each other. now, several happened last year when the houses collapsed when they were pick up by high winds. let's check in with tara about the fog. >> yes. and then as quickly as the fog rolls in, it can roll out. about an hour and a half before the advisories are lifted. all of your bay area bridges are affected. in union city, there's an accident on 880 southbound and industrial parkway. in livermore, 580 westbound at isabella avenue. another fender-bender. traffic is sluggish there. let's head to the san mateo bridge where we have the heavy fog advisory in effect. you can see traffic on the right-side of your screen.

that's foster city. hayward on your left and at the bay bridge toll plaza, the metering lights are on. the fog is very thick so give yourself extra time. let's check in with steve. >> all right, tara. we'll probably all see some sun today and then this will probably be the last sunny day of the week. there is a lot of clouds and rain on the way. there is a big-time fog bank out there. i just heard from dave in martinez he says clear. it just depends. in fact, adam, he said foggy on highway 1 by skyline and daly city clear and then foggy on the other side of the hill. so it just depends on where you are. some of that fog fickle, kind of dances around a little bit. it will be a day where the fog will burn off. some areas are cold. other are foggy and socked in. visibility about an eighth of a mile or less. there is a lot going on on the

house economists issued a new warning about the fiscally, saying the threat -- police cal cliff, saying the threat -- fiscal cliff saying this could drive people to spend less this holiday season if congress does not act by the end of the year, everybody will owe more in taxes come next april and that most certainly could affect people's spending habits now. >> i think it means they are not spending as much as they would because they still don't know what is gonna happen. >> congress only has 35 days to come to an agreement on deficit reduction. if they don't, automatic tax increases and spending cuts will go into effect january 1st. both parties say they are ready to compromise but still no real progress has been made. 7:33. one bay area hospital demanding to be reimbursed by the los angeles dodgers for the treatment it gave to bryan stow, the giants' fan brutally beaten in l.a.

brian flores is live at san francisco general hospital with more. >> reporter: hi, dave. san francisco general hospital is seeking a $1.2 million medical reimbursement from the dodgers for medical care of bryan stow. the hospital went to -- hospital went to u.s. bankruptcy court in order to seek permission for this. now, stow who continues to receive around-the-clock rehabilitation treatment, initially received brain trauma care at san francisco general for about four months after the alleged beating. stow was brutally attacked in the parking lot of dodgers' stadium while watching the game back in march of 2011. since then, the hospital and essentially taxpayers had to foot the bill for medical care. but now the hospital is seeking to get money back from the dodgers. many fans are hoping that this ugly chapter gets resolved soon. meanwhile, the "l.a. times" reports that the

hospital pursue the claim despite the deadline for doing so has passed the if the judge agrees and the hospital can go after some type of reimbursement, no official comment from the hospital or from the dodgers. meanwhile, stow and his family are prepared to go to trial next day in a separate lawsuit. we're live here in san francisco, i'm brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:33. one of the men accused of vandalizing a muni bus during the giants' world series celebration will go before a judge. he's accused of vandalizing a bus and setting it on fire at third of market. he entered a not guilty plea. he remains in jail this morning. it's 7:35. six months after a teenager was killed in san jose, police have arrested a suspect in the case. authorities say an off-durty officer saw 18-year-old jacob

harro at a walmart in morgan hill on thanksgiving night. the officer called police who came and arrested him. he's accused of killing 16-year- old ruben zamora back on may 26th. the 23-year-old man was also under -- a 23-year-old man was also bounded in the shooting. and outbreak of violence in oakland leaves four people dead. coming up, what we're learning about three different fatal shootings in a 24-hour period. a u.s. navy s.e.a.l. from northern california has been killed in combat in afghanistan. the defense department says 32- year-old kevin ebert was killed saturday. he's from arcade da. he was assigned to -- arcadia. he was assigned to the u.s. s.e.a.l.s team. a paper says one idea is to have a small terrorism force

with less than 1,000 troops to stay in afghanistan, primarily to give advice to afghan forces. but then there's another option calling for 10,000 u.s. troops and several thousand non-nato troops to stay in the country. the california congress wants to change the way combat awards are given out. hunter says several medals were not awarded because of oversight and a lengthy paperwork process. the pentagon says some military members request their names be removed from the list and others are not posted for security reasons. gas prices continue to slip even through the holiday weekend. the cheapest gas in the bay area is in santa rosa, where a gallon of regular sales for an average of $3.68. san jose is just a penny more and in oakland, it's $3.72.

those are all less than the state-wide average. in san francisco, it's a dime more, at $3.85. but even that is 53 cents less than a month ago. today is the last day for you bay area car lovers to enjoy the international car show. the international auto show at the moscone center in san francisco show days 39 automakers. it's the 55th year for the event. for the first time people who go there can actually test- drive some of the newest models. the show opens at 10:00 this morning, runs until 8:00 tonight. tickets, by the way, are $9. >> yeah, not bad. 7:37. let's check in with tara, filling in for sal. >> we have an accident, this one between livermore and brentwood. a motorcycle verses a car on 580 westbound. a motorcycle is in the center lane. we'll keep an eye on it for you. in the pittsburg area, highway 4, bay point, the fog hovering

sunny. this will be the last sunny and mild day of the week, no doubt. fog tomorrow morning and then increasing clouds. it will turn cloudy by tuesday night. the first one will be on wednesday, the second one thursday night and then it looks like friday through sunday could see a series of systems moving in. but even a subtropical tap to the system means more rain. the fog, east bay, not too bad. some areas are really around the -- really around the bay are socked in and on the peninsula and coast. mostly sunny after the fog burns off. but the dry pattern ends on wednesday. all eyes will then on on the rain. russian river and points north, feather, shasta/lassen as well, they will get rain. but it looks like a pretty good significant event for the north bay as weigh head wednesday into sunday. we have sunshine unless you have the fog. once that burns off, we'll start to see slowly increasing clouds tomorrow. that will be the warm sector of the system. 30s, 40s and 50s, really cold

for some. not so bad for others. the high pressure will then say, i'm out of here and that means temperatures will be on the mild side and head down towards midweek. but areas of fog and sunny, not too bad. but multiple systems coming in wednesday into sunday. heavy rain is possible, especially for the north bay. today, that fog, thick, then sunny. very mild for some although we're starting off cold for others. we'll end up with 50s and 60s. yesterday, if that -- if that fog doesn't burn off, it's a tall order to get above 59. kind of a broad brush on the temperatures. if you break through the fog it won't be bad. increasing clouds tuesday. wednesday rain moves in. the next system comes in thursday night and then the timing almost impossible right now. but it looks wet as we go into the weekend. >> all right, steve. 7:41. people in new york who became unemployed due to sandy are now getting work.

stocks are lower after a new fiscal cliff warning from the white house economists. billionaire warren buffett has an opinion article in today's "new york times" calling for higher taxes on the ultrarich and mocking the idea that investors will pull back if capital gains increase. the dow is down 68. the nasdaq is down 3. s&p is down 6. black friday spending jumped more than 12% from last year. the national retail federation says shoppers -- made 247 million visits to stores and websites and spent an average

of $423. but those numbers include shopping that actually started on thanksgiving. another retail tracking company says sales on friday alone actually dropped almost 2% because many retailers were opened a least part of the day on thanksgiving. individual stores could start releasing black friday numbers before the end of the week. early reports show many shoppers liked spending their holidays in stores. that could give toys 'r' us, target and walmart stocks a boost. they are being named by retail analysts as the most shopper- friendly stores and websites during the shopping period. analysts also expect to see active trading on amazon today. their stock is up nearly 1%. it's the world's largest online retailer and should see a lot of business this cyber monday. they launched some of the deals at midnight including the kindle fire tablet at $129 which is a $30 discount. 7:46. apple wants more product the added to its patent

infringement lawsuit against samsung. the court has been added to add the samsung galaxy note two and five other pro products. earlier -- five other products. well, if you wanted to buy every single item named in all 12 verses of the 12 days of christmas it will cost more than $107,000 this year. that's up 6% from last year. pnc wealth management says the price for french hens, gold rinse, geese, swans, pipers piping and drummers drumming, they all went up. the price of pear trees also up this year. but the cost of a partridge, along with the turtledoves, calling birds, mades, they held -- maids, well, they hold steady. there was some pretty

disturbing confetti at the may's thanksgiving parade a college student at the parade with some friends noticed some of the confetti floating around contained confidential number on it from the nasa police department. >> information reports from police, addresses. >> some of the confetti identified detectives with their social security numbers, date of birth and other very sensitive information. the nassau county police department says it is investigating how that shredded information ended up in the macy's parade. macy's, by the way, says it only uses commercial -- commercially manufactured multi- colored paper in the parade. the san francisco police department will begin accepting applications for entry-level officer jobs this morning. eligible applicants must be at least 21 years old, a u.s.

citizen, have a valid california driver's license and a high school diploma or equivalent. the application period will end friday, december 7th. the starting salary for a san francisco police officer is $88,000 a year. theyed add -- the city council is set to consider a proposal to change the retirement formula for existing officers and transfers from other departments. if approved, officers could retire at the age of 50 with a pension of 3% of their last year's salary times the number of years they worked for the department. the police department currently has 14 vacant positions. time is 7:49. it's harvest season again in sonoma county and now that the grapes are in, the olive harvest. now that takes priority. growers say this will be a banner year for the olive crop. they are expecting this year's crop to be really high in

oakland police are busy trying to prevent more gun violence after four people were shot and killed in 24 hours over the holiday weekend. this map shows where the three fatal shootings occurred saturday and sunday. police say two women were shot to death yesterday morning on military enna avenue near brookdale avenue and an 18-year- old woman was also shot and killed saturday on 28th in east oakland. a 19-year-old man died saturday after being shot on san pablo avenue in north oakland. the city of oakland has now seen 115 homicides this year. it's more than all of last year when there were 110. the record high for homicides

in oakland was in 1992 when there were 175 deaths. the search has ended for a 16-year-old boy swept into the ocean in humboldt county. it happened saturday afternoon at big lagoon north of eureka. the teenager and his parents went into the water to try to save their dogs. both parents drowned and were pronounced dead at the scene. the coast guard has called off the search for the bit yesterday. the dog survived. a humane society says it will pay chihuahua owners to bring their dogs in to spay and neuter. this offer is for san mateo county and in san francisco. this is in response to the high number of chihuahuas in bay area shelters. the official website for the city of san jose, it has a new look. officials say the upgraded website, this one, should make it easier for you to get

good morning. welcome back to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> and good morning. i'm dave clark. it's monday, it's november 26th. wethe first morning commute since the thanksgiving holiday is tougher because of dense fog in many areas. ktvu's lorraine blanco is live near the bay bridge toll plaza. you've been out there since

4:30 this morning. so what is it like now, lorraine? >> dave, the fog has actually lifted quite a lot since we saw you the last time, actually in the last 15 minutes. if you take a look at this crane behind me, you can see the bottom of that crane, but you can't see the top. so there's still fog out here. and this morning, it was like a magician did a little hocus- pocus on the toll plaza. it was not to be seen until about 15, 20 minutes ago. you are now able to see the toll plaza and traffic is moving rather slow into the city. this is new video of what it is like driving in the soupy sunrise. you can't read freeway signs until you are right up on them. this is the foggiest i've seen in this area in a very long time. we drove 880 north and 80 east and the fog covered from oakland to san pablo. the fog is blanketing a lot of the city this moring as well. advisories remain in effect for all bridges except the

dumbarton bridge. the chp reminds drivers to allow some extra time, slow down, i know it's monday but try to be extra patient in these foggy conditions. reporting live in oakland, lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. >> it's still a problem in many parts of the bay area including at sfo. look at these live pictures. we just talked to the duty manager. he says the fog there at sfo is expected to cause delays of flights of an hour or more most of today. those delays are expected to begin sometime this hour and then last until at least 3:00 this afternoon. the fog is expected to cause many delays at airports in oakland, in san jose. if you do have to fly, call ahead. just to check on the status of your flight 8:02. a carbon monoxide scare in san francisco sent more than a dozen people to the hospital and there's still a search for the source of the poisonous gas. alex savidge is in san francisco to explain why

investigators are having such a hard time finding answers. good morning, alex. >> reporter: well, good morning. a pg&e spokeswoman told me this morning the representative they had out here last night couldn't find a source for the carbon monoxide. he tested all of the appliances in the upstairs unit where the people got sick. he also tested the appliances in the downstairs unit as well and couldn't find any gas leaks. firefighters were called out here around 7:00 last night to this house on cortland in bernal flights. 14 people were transported to the hospital. firefighters say the patients had some carbon monoxide in their blood stream. a pg&e representative here on scene was not age to figure out where the gas was come -- not able to figure out where the gas was coming from. one neighbor said this scare forced her to evacuate. she was worried about the family members sent to the hospital. >> a few of them had really high carbon monoxide readings and we're okay, though, and i -- and i don't know about the family right now.

>> reporter: i reached out to the san francisco fire department early this morning. so far i've not been able to get an update on the current conditions for all of those people hospitalized as a result of their exposure to carbon monoxide. there's also no word on whether this family was alerted by a carbon monoxide detector. but it bears reminding here this morning after this scare last night that there was a law put into place last year here in california requiring all single-family homes to have a carbon monoxide detector and then coming up january of next year, all condos, apartments and other multi-family dwellings will also have to have those installed as well. live this morning in san francisco, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. today a south bay charity will open its cold weather shelter program. e.h.c. life builders runs three shelters at the national guard amries in gilroy, sunnyvale and san jose.

the program provides emergency beds and daily meals. the shelters will be open until the end of march. the father of a vallejo is in jail after police say he shot and killed another teenager fighting with his son. it happened early yesterday morning on robles way near glen cove. 44-year-old randee damar williams senor is caulked of -- is accused of shooting and -- senior is accused of shooting and killing a teenager. neighbors heard yelling and then there was gunfire. >> all you heard was pow, pow, pow, pow. and i just ducked. i laid down. >> scary. right across the street someone got shot. >> williams was arrested at his home shortly after the shooting. this was the 21st homicide of the year in vallejo. it is 8:05. we're now learning about a bay area connection to a fatal collision on highway 50 that killed four people. the crash happened saturday night near placerville when the driver of a prius veered across four lanes of traffic right

into the path of a minivan. three members of an oakland family who were riding in the prius were killed. their 10-year-old daughter is hospitalized with severe injuries and a 4-year-old girl who was riding in the minivan also died. some people who live in the area believe the driver of the prius may have swerved to avoid hitting a deer. >> i think it's -- there's a high chance of it being connected. >> four other people were not seriously injured. the number of deadly crashes was up this thanksgiving weekend compared to last year but dui arrests were down just a bit. the chp says 31 people were killed all over the state including six here in the bay area between wednesday evening and yesterday morning. that's ten more statewide than last year. many of those cases people were not wearing seat belts. >> as we can see in fatalities, not everybody was seat belted.

that's unfortunate. because that should be the norm for everybody when they are being seated in a vehicle, to automatically buckle up that seat belt. >> the chp says 224 people were arrested in the bay area on suspicion of dui during the maximum enforcement period. that compares to 227 last year. this week, the supreme court could decide whether to take up the issue of same-sex marriage. the court is scheduled to hold a closed-door conference on friday. coming up at 8:15, how the justices could make same-sex marriage legal in california before christmas. leaders in san jose are in -- ed lookers in san jose are offering -- are asking for suggestions. chris moore announced he was gonna retire at the end of january. a community meeting will be held at 6:30 tonight at the community center in san jose. four other meetings are scheduled in the next two weeks. you this this morning from

very, very foggy for some. already sunny and nice for others. highs today, 50s and 60s. fog should start to burn off around 9:00, 9:0. there is a blanket out there. enjoy the sun because rain comes in by wednesday. 8:14. new this morning from bangladesh, pictures of a second fire at a bangladesh garment factory. this comes after a weekend fire at another factory that killed 117 people. the new fire has been contained. no injuries are reported in that fire. meanwhile, thousands are protesting in the streets against the deadly factory fire that trapped workers in a building that did not have emergency exits.

and because there were no exits at least 12 people died just from jumping from the building to escape the flames. there are reports some of the clothes at that factory were being made for walmart, sears and the fashion line of shawn combs. the government has announced a period of mourning for the victims. less than a month after voters in several states approved same-sex marriage, the u.s. supreme court decides whether it wants to get involved. alison burns reports, depending upon what the justices decide, gay couples here in california could be tying the knot before christmas. alison? >> reporter: tori, there are more than a half a dozen cases before the u.s. supreme court involving same-sex marriage. and this week, the justices will meet behind closed doors to decide whether to weigh in on any of them. california's proposition 8 is on the line. that's the 2008 voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage. if the justices decide not to

review the challenge to proposition 8, that means gay and lesbian couples could legally marry in california, right away. but critics of same-sex marriage are concerned that the court could end up legalizing it nationwide. >> that would raise the ross spect, the possible -- the prospect, the possibility of a row v. wade in which the court would impose this on all 50 states. >> the justices are considering whether to take up challenges to a federal law defining marriage as between a man and a woman. we should find out what the court decides by next week. reporting live from washington, d.c., alison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. 8:16. the former first lady of france says she supports gay marriage even though her husband is against it. during a recent interview, she said she favors a plan to legalize gay marriage in

radioactive poisoning on his clothes and toothpaste. they will take samples from his body. the goal is to rule out or confirm poisoning as the result of his death. ehud barack says he will not run in general elections in january but will stay in his current positions until a new government is formed following the january 22nd elections. he's been defense minister since 2009. and previous barak served as prime minister from 199 to 2001 -- 1999 to 2001. talks may have opened in cairo since the truce last week, ending eight days of heavy fighting. israel carried out nearly 15 air strikes on the gaza strip during that time period.

well, leland yee says he will run for secretary of state. the paper reports that he plans to run for the office in two years. that's when his term expires. the former san francisco supervisor made an unsuccessful bid for mayor of san francisco last year. well, interior secretary ken salazar is expected to decide this week whether a 70- year-old oyster farm on the point reyes national seashore can keep up rating. the drake company wants a ten- year extension of the lease. it runs out at the end of the month. environmentists and park officials say the oyster farm is threatening harbor sales and other native species at point reyes. but supporters including dianne feinstein say park officials misrepresented the impact of the oyster farm on the environment. 8:20. a 14-year-old vallejo teenager accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 65-year- old woman will be in court. prosecutors say the 14-year-old boy abducted the woman at gunpoint a week and a half ago,

then assaulted her. he's charged with ten felony counts, including torture and attempted murder. a san francisco sheriff's deputy accused of robbing a bank is due in court this afternoon. tong was arrested earlier this month. authorities say he robbed a bank of america branch in the city's richmond district. he faces robbery and second- degree burglary charges. 8:20. it was a flight that -- fight that started in marin county but it ended with a very close call right near a university campus in southern california. and biologist the okay to shoot at birds to scare them away from planes and the airfields. real bullets may be used if necessary. they only allow the police and the military to fire guns at the airport, but there have been 180 bird strikes in the san jose airports since 2009. the most recent one in june. it damaged the engine at that time. it is all 24, giving them an early county gift to all residence. all county parks will not be charging entry fees during the month of november and on new year's day. county leaders say that it is to thank the county voters for passing measure a. voters approved a quarter cent sales tax expected to raise $10 million a year and this will be the first time in years. the nearest beach have been opened on new year's day. all right, our time is 8:25. tara is back.

you're seeing more traffic out there now, mixed in with the fog and in certain areas? >> reporter: that's right. we're seeing a lot of red on our road ways. if you take a look at the map, i can give you an overview of the bay area right now. do you see all the red there? it does not look all that great. right here a dense fog advisory. you can see it affecting traffic there. southbound, very slow going. then if you head just across the bridge here, you can see that we are going southbound on 880. definitely give yourself extra time there. if we take a look at this, we can show you a lot of back up here. there is nothing on why this attack is happening, but we will definitely check it out for you. 280 and san jose same story. we have a lot of slow down there. and so some congestion out there this morning. give yourself extra time. tara, thank you, sunny

already. but for many, it's been foggy. what the heck is going on here? well that fog, it is really thick for a few. and in fact visibility, it's awful. so the dense fog advisory is out. other areas started in the 30s, clear, sunny. enjoy it while you can. it goes until 9:00, but that fog could linger at 10:00 to 10:30. most of it will start to lift at that time. after the fog on monday and tuesday all eyes will be on what looks to be a very wet pattern here. i have seen projections for over a foot of rain up in the russian river between wednesday and sunday. we'll see. not everyone is on board with that. there will be a lot of snow. the problem is the snow level, not the problem, but the challenge. we'll deal with that as we get a little closer. there will be a lot of moisture coming into northern california. we'll see where that line will drop. but it looks to be the north bay and the sacramento valley up north that will be taking the brunt of this. it will not be until wednesday when you will see that getting closer to us. increasing clouds on tuesday. today, 40s and 50s. a couple 30s for there for a

welcome back, time is 8:30. now that black friday is over, retailers are kicking off cyber monday. ktvu is live for us. tell us what people think about those. >> reporter: i'm sitting outside this coffee shop asking people what they think of the cyber monday deals. so far people are saying that the discounts they are seeing online aren't anything special. they look like any other sale. nothing too extraordinary. but one deal we did find, it is prominently featured on amazon.com is the kindle fire. normally costing $159, but

today, it just, the price was slashed to $129. and now many people, they are heading back to work today and they are expected to do a lot of spending according to the research firm. americans, they are expected to spend $1.5 billion, which is up from last year. retailers like target, wal- mart, macy's are offering deep discounts. some are also offering free shipping. some people we spoke to said that they have been shopped out because they bought on black friday, while others said they took advantage of cyber monday deals that started on sunday. >> i did. sunday night. the deals started then. >> were they good discounts? >> 40% off. that seemed good to me. >> are you going to do anything today or to see if it gets any better? >> i will probably check on my lunch break or anything. but you know i have to work today, so no time for shopping. >> reporter: i wanted to see what kind of deals there were

they hope to report later this week to see if there are signs and donations and volunteers that have gone up. just this morning, they issued a new warning about the fiscal cliff. they say that it could lead consumers to spend less money during the holiday season. so if they don't act, everyone will be owing more taxes. that could affect the spending habits on some people. >> they are not spending like they would because they still don't know what will happen. >> and congress, they only have 35 days now to come to an agreement on the deficit reduction. if they don't, then the automatic tax hikes will be taking effect on january 1. one bay area hospital is demanding to be reimbursed by the los angeles dodgers for the care they gave to brian stowe. the giant's fan who was brutally beaten outside the dodger's stadium a year and a

half ago. they join us from the general hospital. how much money are you talking about here, brian? >> good morning to you. yeah, we're talking about $1.4 million seeking reimbursement from the l.a. dodgers. they went to the bankruptcy court recently in an effort to seek permission to pursue that reimbursement from the dodgers. stowe was brutally attacked in the parking lot while watching the home opener. since then they had to put the bill for the medical care. the hospital is seeking to get money back from the dodgers. they are hoping that this gets resolved soon. >> i do think that the level of care that i know he has

received to build it up and i do think that there is some negligence that they probably have. >> now they are reporting that the attorneys for both of them asked the court to let the hospital pursue their claims, despite a deadline for doing so. and now if the judge agrees, then the hospital could pursue some type of reimbursement from the team. either a trial or a settlement. no comment from the hospital or the dodgers this morning. meanwhile, stowe and his family are preparing to go to trial in may for a very different lawsuit. we're live here in san francisco. i'm brian flores, ktvu. one of the men accused of vandalizing a bus during the celebration last month will face a judge today. the 19-year-old is accused of vandalizing a bus and setting it on fire at 3rd and market.

he's facing one count of vandalism and one count of willful tampering of the passenger of the transit vehicle. he entered a not guilty plea and remained in jail this morning. your time is 8:36. after a teenager was killed in san jose, police arrested the suspect in the case. on thanksgiving night, they spotted the 18-year-old at a wal-mart in morgan hill. that officer, they called the police, they came and arrested him. he's accused of killing another man who was also wounded. >> a u.s. navy seal has been killed in combat in afghanistan. according to the department of defense, the 32-year-old was killed on saturday. he was signed to an east sales team in virginia. time is 8:37. the california congressman wants to change the way that

bit. some areas are dense fog. zero visibility. other locations. that's what we're talking about. >> it's been clear and sunny. cold this morning, 30s, 40s, 50s. but after tuesday morning. all eyes on a different pattern. it looks like wednesday through sunday, we're setting up for what could be a very wet pattern for the north bay. maybe up into the sierra. we will see. first dense fog, hazy skies, sunny, morning fog tomorrow. increasing clouds. arriving on wednesday morning and then thursday afternoon evening. after that, it looks like a wet pattern as we go into friday and the weekend and rain is on the way back. it won't be done, that's for sure. heavy rain, very windy at times, building surf. on the forecast view, we'll get there for you. today it's the fog. the coast bay inland. just all over the place. increasing clouds that will start to come all over the place. but they are still out there. so it will take a day or so. and also into the system, there will be more rain once you get

going. but 40s and50s today, fog, you can see it very low. and increasing clouds, two things to talk about and it will be all rain. it will be hazy with that there. and multiple systems are coming in. it's all for the north bay, especially for a foot of rain between wednesday and sunday. we'll see. those are not too much for that, but it will be raining around here for midweek. but being the forecast models, they don't handle the valley fog very well. but like yesterday in san jose, they did not get out of the upper 50s. they started sunny. and increasing clouds on tuesday. rain on wednesday morning and

time now is 8:44. let's bring you up to date on the top stories we are tolling right now. they were treated during that scare here in san francisco. some of them have traces of the gas in their system. however, they are still investigating as to where it comes from. today is cyber monday, holiday shoppers are expected to spend about $1.5 billion online. to avoid being scammed, the experts say to use the websites, strong passwords, don't use your debit card.

and today a south bay charity will open their cold weather shelter program. those shelters will be open through the end of march. if you are just heading out the door, you may want to give yourself extra time. they are live near the bridge toll plaza with information on the dense fog advisory. take a look at the conditions in oakland. it looks like it has cleared up quite a bit. >> yes, it really has. it's not as much of an issue. now, they are faded, but the good news is it has become a lot easier to see the vehicles in front of you, which is the important part. this is what it looks like, driving in these foggy conditions. this is just a short time ago.

you can read the freeway signs until you're right in front of them as we drove north and east this morning and the fog, they covered up the area from oakland, all the way to right before this area. and the fog was blanketing a lot of the city this morning. and the fog advisories do remain in effect right now for all the bridges. but those environments, they will expire shortly. as you can see here at the toll plaza this morning, traffic, they are backed up, but this is usually how it is here at the bay bridge and the fog that has lifted a lot since we came out here at health care this morning. reporting live in oakland, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. it is 8:46. oakland police, they want to prevent more gun violence after four people were shot and killed in just 24 hours over the holiday weekend. this map shows you where the fatal shootings occurred on saturday and sunday. and police, they say that two women were shot to death yesterday morning. it was all near this street where the woman was also shot and killed on saturday on 28th avenue in east oakland.

and a 19-year-old man, he died on saturday after being shot on the avenue here in north oakland. oakland, they have now seen 115 homicides so far this year. that's more than last year when they had 110 homicides. the all-time how for the homicides in oakland is back in 1992 when there were 175 deaths. well, a search has now ended for a 16-year-old boy, swept into the ocean in the county. it all happened on saturday afternoon at big lagoon. north of eureka. the teenager and his parents went into the water, trying to rescue their dog. well, both parents, they drowned. they were pronounced dead at the scene. they are now calling off the search for the teenage boy. the dog by the way, survived. later this morning, the san francisco police department, they will start taking applications for the entry- level police officer jobs. eligible applicants have to be at least 21 years old. the u.s. citizens with a valid

california driver's license and a high school diploma. and the application period ends on friday, december 7. starting pay by the way for the san francisco police officer, $88,000 a year. 8:48. the city may also offer new incentives to get more experienced officers to apply to its police force. they are set to consider a proposal tomorrow to change the retirement formula for existing officers and transfers from the other departments. if approved, the officers could retire at the age of 50 with a pension of 3% of their last year's salary times the number of years they worked for the department. and the police department, they currently have 14 vacancy positions. the official website for the city of san jose has a new look. city leaders say the upgraded website should make it easier for people to find information about the local services and the events. the emergency alerts and the calendar of events are now on the front page.

city leaders say that the changes were made after getting feedback from the residence and the businesses. well, apple wants more products added to their infringement lawsuit against samsung. it has been asked to include six more devices including the samsung galaxy. there is no comment yet from samsung. earlier this month they allowed them to continue claims that the iphone 5 infringes on its patents. it is 8:49. police in new york are now investigating some disturbing confetti discovered at the macy's thanksgiving day parade. confetti is the traditional part of the thanksgiving parade in new york city. but a college student who attended the parade with some friends says that he noticed some of the confetti floating around contained personal information on the strips of paper from the nearby nasa county police department. >> and there were addresses, more social security numbers, license plate numbers and all these instant reports from police. >> some of the confetti even

identifies detectives with their social security numbers, date of, and other sensitive information. the county police department is investigating how the shredded documents ended up at the parade. macy's says they only use commercially manufactured multicolor confetti in the parade and not shredded paper. just in case you were wondering, spending on black friday jumped more than 12% from last year. the national retail federation says that shoppers made 247 million visits to stores and websites, an average of $423. and that includes shopping that actually began on thanksgiving. another retail tracking company said that sales on friday actually went down almost 2% because many retailers were opened at least a part of the day on thanksgiving. well if you want to buy every single item named in all 12 verses of the 12 days of christmas, it will cost more
